Fox cub gets head stuck in rat trap outside Bradford Co-op as RSPCA issue warning

A fox cub required a herculean effort to rescue it from a rat trap in an unusual incident that the RSPCA says left the young animal "clearly shocked".To get more news about Underground Warning Tape, you can visit senpinghz.com official website.

The curious young fox found itself in a spot of bother when it wedged its head inside a bait box that was attached to a fence in the rear delivery area outside a Co-op store on High Park Drive, in Bradford. According to the RSPCA, they were contacted on the morning of Wednesday, July 6, after staff spotted the animal's body protruding from the bait box.
RSPCA Inspector John Gibson initially tried to wriggle the creature from the trap using washing up liquid. When that method failed to work, he was forced to cut the box.He said: "I tried using some washing up liquid at first to prise her out, but she had a little bit of bruising around her cheek, so it was best to use a cutting tool, with her head protected, to get her free. She was clearly shocked, which is why it was best to release her where she was found and where there was a thoroughfare that would attract wildlife.

"She ran off down it and obviously knew where she was going. The fox was very lucky as she hadn’t gone far inside the box and the break back trap had already been triggered."

And the RSPCA is warning people about the use of rat traps. Bait boxes are designed to attract unwanted rats and mice, but occasionally, non-target species will be attracted.Inspector Gibson said: “Pest control companies do set up these boxes to prevent non-target species from getting stuck and they are within the law. But it’s difficult to completely prevent other animals from accessing the box, and this young fox was small enough to be able to push her head inside.

This shows why it is important that these types of boxes are regularly monitored. Fortunately, the staff were taking a delivery around the back of the store and saw her body sticking out of the box."

In written guidance, the RSPCA urged people to use other deterrents when targeting rats. They said: "The RSPCA encourages firms and householders to use humane deterrents when tackling rats and mice so as to avoid harming non-target animals.
